    School of Foreign Languages of Liaoning Normal University was founded in the early years of our Republic. After nearly 60 years of development, now it has become the largest secondary schools of Liaoning Normal University. Recently, the school has four departments: English, Japanese, Russian and French.
    The first level discipline of Foreign Language and Literature is authorized to confer master's degree. It can recruit graduate students of such majors as  English Language and Literature, Japanese Language and Literature, Russian Language and Literature, French Language and Literature, Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Curriculum and Teaching Methodology (English, Japanese) and other professional master’s degree graduate students. It is also the institutes of the translation of professional master degree (MTI), master of English education in higher school, master of English education in primary and secondary schools and the equivalent applicants for master's degree.
    There are 24 English professional master's tutors, 8 Japanese professional master's tutors, 6 Russian professional master's tutors in the School of Foreign Languages.  The Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics is the key discipline in Liaoning province. Our school establishes basic courses and theory courses of language skills, language teaching theory, literature, non-normal professional for four language categories including English, Japanese, Russian and French and their nine professional directions. At the same time, it offers second language courses of French, German, Japanese and so on.  The school also has a cooperation programs of joint training of graduate students with University of Miami, Indiana State University, Emporia State University.
    At present, there are 154 staff members, among whom there are 16 professors, 49 associate professors, 71 lecturers and assistant teachers, 17 administrators and tutors. There are 27 teachers who have the doctor’s degree.  Our school has a long-term cooperation and communication with schools and universities and research institutes in America, Canada, Britain, France, Australia, Russia, Japan and other countries. Every year many outstanding teachers and students are selected to go abroad for further study.  A dozen language education experts from Britain, America, France, Russia, Australia, Japan and other countries are engaged in related courses teaching. In recent years, School of Foreign Languages has increased personnel training and the introduction of teaching talents. The number, degree, title, age and educational background of the faculty have great changes. It gradually establishes an age structure, reasonable knowledge structure, teaching experience, excellent business ability and dynamic faculty.
    The institute attaches great importance to foreign language teaching and research work. The scientific research work of our school have increased year by year, no matter on quality and on quantity. During the tenth five-year period, it has published 7 academic monographs, 16 translations, 25 textbooks and 64 teaching reference books. It has published 34 papers in the national core journals, 521 papers in the provincial academic journals. In the same period, 10 provincial scientific research projects have been approved , including 2 Humanities and Social Science Fund Program from the  Ministry of Education (the Russian-Chinese Complex Sentence Contrast Research, 2005; Chinese Characters as the Medium of Words Spread – Chinese-Japanese Vocabulary  Communication Research in the Modern Period, 2005). It has also been approved 2 Foreign Government and Consortium Projects. During the 11th five-year period, it has published 19 academic monographs, 7 translations, 19 textbooks and 73 teaching reference books. It has published 61 papers in the national core journals, 651 papers in the provincial academic journal. At the same time, it was approved  a National Humanities and Social Science Fund Program (the Theory construction and application of foreign language learning strategy in China, 2009), 29 provincial scientific research project, including 3 Ministry of Education Humanities and Social Science Fund Program (Russian Fast Reading Strategies, 2006; Chinese Translation of Western Science in late Qing Dynasty Novel Research, 2009; Chinese Technical Generation and Cross-cultural Communication Research Based on  the Corpus, 2010).
    In the research of English and American literature, the research of Eliot and Pound has reached the forefront level of this discipline. Currently, there are the research of American Post-modernism, American Female Writers, the Words in English Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Shakespeare, John Hawks, Russia Comparative Study on the Chinese and Russian Literature Study, Japanese Philology, Japanese Vocabulary Study, Japanese Women Literature Research, and the Research on Cross-cultural Communication between China and Japan. Those fruitful research results have a far-reaching influence on foreign language teaching and academic research. School of Foreign Languages has a long-term cooperation and exchanges with the schools and universities and research institutions in the United States, Canada, Australia, Britain, France, Italy, Russia, Japan and other countries.
    School of Foreign Languages also has a Japanese Learning Research Center, American Institute, Institute of Canada, English Teaching Research Institute, Institute of Shakespeare, Russian Learning Strategy Research Institute, Matteo Ricci and Matino Martini Research Institute and the Australian Research Center and IELTS Test Centre. It is also the president unit of ACSC.
    At present it has a simultaneous interpretation language laboratory, 10 network digital language labs, 11 simulation language labs, a total of 1098 sets of laboratory equipment with a total area of 1952 square meters.
    There are 2053 students, including 452 graduate students and 1601 undergraduate students. School of Foreign Languages pays much attention to the cultivation of students' comprehensive quality and creative ability and students do well in the competition  in the provinces and cities and even the national Contests for many times. College students from year to year have the opportunity to study abroad for further study and pay a visit to the United States, France, Russia, Japan and other countries to participate in academic conferences. The employment rate is among the best in Liaoning Normal University and the graduate student admission rate and the passing rate of Band 4 and Band 8 are increased year by year. The passing rate of Tem 4 and Tem 6 is the highest among the universities.
    Students’ work in our school has always been in the leading position in  the university. Our Foreign Language Festival has grown as the brand of the construction of campus culture activities in our university. It also hosted the "CCTV Cup" English Speech Contest in Liaoning semifinal, College Students' Art Festival between China and Russia, "Peninsula Morning Paper" Cup TV English Contest in Dalian and other large-scale activities which have prepared many volunteers for the Beijing Olympic Games and Guangzhou Asian games. At the same time, the institute has provided volunteers for Davos BBSDalian International Festival, and Dalian International Hiking Conference for a long time. It has formed a profound impact all over the school. It provides a good platform for the students to improve their quality comprehensively. The school has 10 social practice bases for the school students. It was rated as advanced group of school students’ social practice year after year in our university. In 2007 it was awarded the Advanced Unit of Preparatory Work for "the First Annual New Leader-- from Davos to Dalian" by Dalian Municipal Party Committee, Municipal Government Foreign Language College Counseling office was rated as "Excellent Counseling Room" many times. Our Youth League Committee has been rated as "Advanced Youth League Committee in Dalian. It was rated as "Advanced School Youth League Committee" year after year.
