    Liaoning Normal University set up Physical Education(PE) Major in 1976 and established Physical Education Department with the approval of Bureau of Education of Liaoning Province in 1980. It began to recruit students in 1981 and restructured for the Sports Institute in 1996. In 2000, according to a unified planning of the secondary college of Liaoning Normal University, the original Sports College and University PE Department combined to form a new School of Physical Education. Now there are Physical Education Department, Sports Department, Special PE, Sports Science Experiment Center, university PE Department, Graduate Office, and College Office. Constitution Test Center of Dalian is in the School of Physical Education. The secondary discipline of Sports Pedagogy and PE Training Science have doctoral degree awarding right; The level 1 discipline of Sports Science has master's degree awarding right and the equivalent master's degree awarding right.  Curriculum and Teaching Methodology (sports) Major has master's degree awarding right. Sports Discipline Education has master's degree awarding right for Education Masters.

    There are 708 full-time undergraduate students, more than 700 correspondence students and 170 graduate students. For 30 years, our school cultivates more than 2300 sports talents of all types and at all levels for the society. At present, the School of PE has a staff of 91 people with 76 full-time teachers, including 16 professors (including 3 PhD supervisors), 43 associate professors. 9 have doctor's degree and 23 have master's degrees.  Young and middle-aged teachers under the age of 50 account for 90% of the total number of teachers. One of them takes the Special Government Allowances of the State Council. Three teachers were awarded for the Zeng Xianzi Prize for Outstanding Teachers.

School of Physical Education adheres to the socialist direction, fully implements the party's education policy, takes cultivating sports talents of high quality as the center, insists on the basis of education and economic construction service tenet and carries out education teaching and scientific research reform, which has made gratifying achievements. It successively won achievement Prize of National Excellent Teaching and 7 achievement prizes for outstanding teaching in Liaoning province. College Sports Department was awarded as "National Advanced Unit in higher school Physical Education Curriculum Evaluation” in 1992. In 1996 it was named" National Advanced Unit Carrying out the School Sports Work Regulations” It won the second prize for Theory Knowledge Competition in National University Sports Professional Education held by the Ministry of Education in 1999 and the Fourth in team and fifth in total score of Prize for Basic Technical Skills in the College Students' Basic Skills Competition. Its research level has increased year by year. For more than ten years, more than 50 monographs and textbooks have been published, more than 700 papers have been published home and abroad, and more than 10 teachers have participated in the international academic conferences. Four projects have been approved and been awarded by the National Social Science Fund; more than 10 provincial projects have been approved by the State General Administration of Sports. There are two international cooperation projects and a number of projects of provincial Department of Education.
