School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering

    The predecessor of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering is the Biochemistry Branch in Dalian Three-year Normal College, which was founded in 1956. In 1958, it was expanded and changed its name to the Chemistry Department of Dalian Normal College. In 1960, the name was changed to the Chemistry Department of Liaoning Normal College. In 1983, its name changed to chemistry department of Liaoning Normal University. In 2004, it is changed to the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.
    There are 76 staff and among them 58 are professional teachers (and 1 external academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences), 2 experts enjoying special government allowances of the State Council, 1 is the National Outstanding Teacher, 1 outstanding expert of Liaoning province. 7 provincial candidates in the Millions of Talents Project, 15 university-level special professors, 2 university-level famous teachers of teaching, 5 doctoral supervisors, 24 professors, 17 associate professors. 28 people have the doctor’s degree, and 4 are still working on their Ph.D. The school mainly develops the undergraduate education, vigorously develops the graduate education and properly develops the adult education. The school has formed the multi-level educational system of cultivating undergraduates, correspondence student, backbone teachers, educational masters, university teachers, in-service masters, graduate students and doctoral candidates. At present, the school has 561 undergraduate students, 239 graduate students, 11 doctoral candidates at school.
    The school opens the Department of Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Pharmacy and the Teaching Center of Chemical Experiment and the Research Institute of Functional Materials Chemistry, the Research Institute of Molecular and Materials, the Research Institute of the Applied Chemistry. At present, there is one key discipline of Liaoning province (Physical Chemistry). One subject (Inorganic Chemistry) is the university-level key discipline. One laboratory (the Laboratory of Molecular and Functional Materials) is the key laboratory in the colleges and universities of Liaoning province. One team (the Team of Functional Molecules, Materials Design and Simulation Development) is the Innovative Scientific Research Team in the colleges and universities of Liaoning province. There is one Demonstration Center of Chemical Experimental Teaching of Liaoning province. At present, the school has three undergraduate programs, Chemistry (normal), Applied Chemistry, Pharmacy and Inorganic Chemistry (science), Organic Chemistry(science), Physical Chemistry (science), Analytical Chemistry(science), High Polymer Chemistry and Physics (science), Applied Chemistry (engineering) and the Chemical Theory of Curriculum and Teaching Methodology(education), seven master sections and a doctor section of Physical Chemistry (science). The level of the school’s teaching management is improving steadily and it has been continuously named the Advanced Unit of Teaching Management in Liaoning Normal University for many years. The achievement of teaching reform is remarkable. The school successively won the Teaching Achievement Award of Liaoning province, the Excellence Award of the National Courseware Competition and the Excellence Award of the National Software Competition and many other awards. The experiment of organic chemistry won the top-quality courses of Liaoning province.
    Our school actively advocates the work of scientific research, which has a great result. Over 20 national natural science fund projects have been approved and the aggregate amount reaches 5 million Yuan:  one of the National Natural Science Fund key project (1.4 million Yuan), 1 International Long-term Cooperation Project, 2 major projects approved by the ministries, 2 key projects of Liaoning province, 12 Natural Science Fund Project of Liaoning province, 20 Department of Education Projects and many horizontal subjects. More than 600 research theses have been published and more than 200 theses have been included in SCI, which take up 70% of the whole school SCI theses. Among them, the effecting factor of 40 papers is above 3.0. Six monographs have been published including the book Quantum Chemistry of Macromolecular System written by  Professor Yang Zhongzhi has a greater influence in China . Two scientific research achievements won the second prize at the provincial or ministerial level; 3 won the third prize at the provincial or ministerial level; 6 patents are approved and 11 patents has been accepted.
